Keynotes and Speakers for ITx 2018
CEO, Designer Technology Ltd
Ray Delany has made his career in IT since 1980, and has seen several disruptive changes alter the landscape of the industry in that time. His career includes many years at CIO and General Manager level in major enterprises, including Fisher & Paykel, Waitemata Health and the Ministry of Health.
As a consultant, Ray has advised many organisations of all sizes on digital strategy for the 21st century. He was one of the first 100 people in New Zealand to achieve Chartered IT Professional certification. As President of ITP from 2012 to 2014 Ray oversaw the reinvention and re-branding of that institution and chaired the first ITx conference in 2014.
He is currently CEO of Designer Technology Ltd in Auckland and holds a Master of Management from the University of Auckland.
Most organizations in NZ and throughout the world are at risk from digital disruption. The challenge is that predicting where the disruption is going to come from and what form it will take is nearly impossible.
Companies who approach this problem from a traditional IT perspective risk making serious strategic missteps.
The role of the CIO has always changed significantly over the years. Some commentators have even said that this role is no longer required at all.
In this provocative presentation, Ray Delany compares his experience as an enterprise CIO to his most recent experience as the CEO of a company providing services marketed to CxOs in medium enterprises.
The dilemma of the CEO or business owner wishing to avoid or mitigate the worst effects of disruption are explored and some practical steps outlined for both CIOs and other CxOs.
